Motown on Mondays SF – Recap

It’s only Monday if you treat it like one!
A few weeks back I had the pleasure of embarking on a roadtrip down to the Bay Area to see some friends and attend a wedding. I took this as an opportunity to hit up some of the hardest-working djs in SF, who happen to throw one of the best parties around, and see if I could come thru the Mission to Madrone and drop a guest set. Thankfully the Motown on Mondays residents Timoteo
Gigante and Gordo Cabeza welcomed me with shots of Fernet (which is an actual sponsor of MOM) and were able to get me on the decks once the dancefloor got jumping around 10pm…yes, it was packed at 10. The event itself has expanded to happy hour as well, so there we already people enjoying soulful sounds, shooting fernet, watching footage of classic Motown performers and eating chicken and waffle sandwiches from the food truck outside.
The format was heavy on the hitsville, but also travelled head on into the funk and disco wormhole with some fierce dance remixes and sample flips once the dance floor kicked into gear. I had an absolute blast playing some of my personal edits and those I’ve plucked from the soundcloud archives over the years. The crowd was incredible. They danced their asses off for hours on end and showed much love once I got off the decks to show them a move or two. They even had a masseuse on hand to ease the pain!
So next time you’re in the bay be sure to swing thru and get your watutsi on!
